Kevin Stop It!
By Rebekah Miller
Once upon a time there lived a boy named Kevin. He liked to tease people a lot. He liked to tease his oldest sister the most.
One day he told his oldest sister Marie that his cat had kittens and that she should come see them. She was not sure if he was telling the truth. She went with him to see them. Kevin took off the lid of the box and there inside were three baby mice. Marie jumped back and ran for their house.
When she got inside the house, Marie looked for her mother until she found her. Marie explained to her mother what had happened. Kevin rarely got punished for teasing, but this time he had to clean out the horse stalls by himself.
Every day, Kevin did something to irritate Marie. The next day, Kevin took her pet hamster and tried to get his pet snake to eat it. She found him trying to do it, and this time she was furious. She took his snake by the tail and dragged it out to the pond and threw it into the water. Her hamster was okay--he got a little cut in his side, but it did not bleed.
This time, Kevin got in big trouble. He had to clean out the pig pen by himself, wash the vehicles, and vacuum the whole house.
It went on like this for around a week, until Marie decided to move out. She found a place to live, not that far from her job.
Once Marie moved out, Kevin thought that he had to bother his older brother, Ben. When Kevin did something to irritate Ben, Ben would figure out something to do back to him. One time, Kevin put spiders in Ben's bed. Ben did not say anything to Kevin about it, he just got Kevin back. He took a bucket and poured glue, chicken feathers, and rotten, shredded, Limburger cheese into it. Then he mixed it up and hooked up a rig so that when Kevin opened up the barn door the mix would fall on him. Ben told all his parents and siblings (except for Kevin) to not go into the barn.
Later that day, their Mom told Kevin to go feed the horses and then let them into the pasture. All of Kevin’s siblings and parents were in the house watching him. He opened the door and SPLAT, the bucket let the mix out. It went all over him. Everyone came out of the house laughing.
There Kevin was, covered in the smelly cheese, glue, and chicken feathers. He was not laughing at all. He was so mad. He stomped off to the house. He was about to go inside to wash up, but his Mom stopped him. She told Kevin to go back to the barn and use the hose to rinse himself off. It took him a while to get everything off, and while he was rinsing himself off Ben came and talked to him.
He said, “I am not like Marie who goes and tells Mom what you did to tease me, I just pay you back.”
The next day, while Ben was outside feeding the cows, Kevin took Ben's favorite book and wrote all over the cover and the inside of it. When Ben came back inside, Kevin was making lunch (it was his turn). While Kevin was making lunch, Ben read a magazine called "How to Pay Back Little Brothers for What They Did to You". Kevin made lasagna for lunch and put ground up mushrooms in it. He ground them up so that Ben would not see them (he was allergic to mushrooms). When the food was done cooking they ate lunch.
When Ben was done eating he put the food away and went to the bathroom to brush his teeth. He saw his face in the mirror. It was swollen, red, and itchy. He knew right away what it was that made his face swollen, red, and itchy.
He went back to the kitchen and found Kevin, and asked Kevin what he put in the lasagna. Kevin did not answer at first, until Ben was yelling at him. Kevin said that he put ground up mushrooms in it. Ben had to go to the hospital to get treated for his allergic reaction. When Ben got home later that night, his parents told him that Kevin had to pay for Ben having to go to the hospital.
The next morning, Ben found his book. He knew who had done it. He marched over to Kevin's room and did not knock, but just went in. When Kevin saw Ben coming after him he jumped out of bed and ran as fast as he could downstairs to the kitchen. Their Mom was trying to make breakfast when Ben came and tried to get Kevin.
Their Mom got them to stop. Kevin had to explain what he had done, and he got in big, big trouble. (He thought so.) He had to buy Ben a new book and mow all of the lawn. He was so mad that he had to mow it all by himself and said that it is not fair.
The next day while Kevin was outside mowing the lawn, Ben was making breakfast (it was his turn). He decided to make eggs, waffles, turkey sausage, orange juice, and coffee. He decided to pay Kevin back by adding a little cayenne pepper to Kevin's waffles. Kevin hated spicy foods.
When it was time to eat, everyone came in, sat down, prayed, and then ate. When Kevin took his first bite of his waffle, he got up and went to the bread cupboard and got out four pieces of bread and ate them all down fast. Ben was still sitting down, trying not to laugh--it was hard to eat and not laugh. Once Kevin got rid of the spiciness in his mouth he went after Ben.
Their Dad had to come stop Kevin from getting to Ben. Their parents took them both into the living room. They explained to them that if you do something to someone you can expect them to pay you back with something just as bad or worse. And just because school is out for the summer and you are bored, doesn't mean you should do stuff to irritate people. They both agreed to quit irritating each other.
